Athletic Club and Volta Redonda will face each other on the 13th and 20th of October in the big decision of Series C, of the Brazilian championship.
The first game will take place on the 13th, at the Raulino de Oliveira Stadium, in Volta Redonda, while the return match will be held on the 20th, at the Athletic Club, in São João del-Rei.
Direct confrontation between teams
In 2024, there were two clashes between the teams, both won by the Minas Gerais team. To win the title, Volta Redonda will need to improve its performance against this opponent.
In the first meeting, valid for the Copa do Brasil, on February 27, Athletic won 1-0 at home, eliminating Voltaço from the competition.
In the second match, in the 9th round of Series C of the Brazilian Championship, again in São João del-Rei, the black and white team beat Volta Redonda 3-2, on June 9th.
The path to the final
After 19 games, Volta Redonda ended the first phase of the national tournament in 5th place, with 34 points. The opponent in the final finished as runner-up, with six points more.
Athletic secured a place in the final by beating Londrina 2-1 this Saturday (5), with goals from David Braga and Denilson.
With this victory, the São João del-Rei team reached 10 points, guaranteeing the leadership of Group B of the Second Phase. Ferroviária came in second place, also with 10 points.
On the other hand, Volta Redonda ended the Second Phase undefeated.
The Cariocas beat São Bernardo 2-1, this Saturday, and confirmed their qualification for the final. Volta Redonda scored 12 points, three more than Remo, second place with nine.
Decision

There is no advantage in case of a tie in points and goal difference. If both criteria end up equal, the decision will be on penalties.
If they are superior in both games, Volta Redonda will win their second national title. In 2016, the team won the Brazilian Championship Series D.
Since then, Voltaço had been fighting for access to Série B, achieved after eight seasons.
